Principal Software Engineer - Performance and Availability

We’re looking for Principal Software Engineers to join our fantastic Software Engineering team within our new Performance and Availability squad.
Our engineers are already hard at work on one of our most ambitious rebuild projects to date, migrating our website application into a new microservices architecture, this includes a brand new Node.js and React presentation layer, as well as a new CMS and using a full CI/CD development and deployment model.
We are looking for Engineers to specialise in Performance and Availability within this area. Developing tools and services that will allow our CI/CD pipeline to deliver code with confidence.
Our Principal Software Engineers work as Tech Leads within autonomous product teams delivering products that are part of the rebuild and in squads aligned to our other key business goals. Our Principal Engineers will take responsibility for the technical delivery of great software and they will lead the technical direction for the team.
The ability to coach and mentor team members is essential to this role, as is experience of Agile software development techniques such as BDD, TDD and pair programming. We are looking for people who can explain very technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, carry out technical prioritisation and work well with colleagues in and outside of the team at all levels.

We like to use Test-Driven approaches to software engineering to ensure our QA is efficient and effective. We are constantly evolving our technology stack based on what is most efficient in engineering terms to deliver a safe and secure environment for our customers to transact within, whilst delivering an architectural estate that ensures a maintainable and easily deployed environment.
Self-development is really important for us. We see both learning together as a team through the process of delivery and individual learning to build specific skills to able to contribute more to the team, as really important. We will give you the time and tools to do this.
For rebuild, we have chosen AWS and will be utilising multiple technologies including:
Java Spring Boot, Node.js, React, AWS microservices architecture, Groovy, Gradle, Jenkins, Docker, AppDynamics, Kibana and Elastic Search.
Within the Performance and Availability stream we will also be utilising AppDynamics as our main APM plus test tools like JMeter, Locust, Gatling, Jaeger and Grafana.
